Food Adventures and Reviews
The Gluttons will never pass up a good deal. For today’s adventure, we decided to take on Japan! Okay, not the country, but the culture of sushi! Oishii indeed!
Our fellow Gluttoner Soleha, managed to obtain discounted coupons from juzToday, and saved us a huge deal on our meals! Instead of paying $33, we only had to pay $15 each with surcharges for the Eat-All-You-Can Sushi buffet! The discounted coupon includes Ramen of the day, free flow of green tea and only the white dishes (for sushi) and not forgetting, it is Halal certified! So our dear Muslim friends can still experience the interesting and delightful cuisine of the Japanese culture.
The entire crew of The Gluttons took a trip down to ShinTokyo and was pleased to find that it was located conveniently beside Clementi MRT station at Clementi Cityvibe. ShinTokyo opens from 11.30am to 10pm. The ever enthusiastic gluttons, we arrived at ShinTokyo at 11am, wishing for the doors to open and our appetites to be satiated.
The service standard was inconsistent at this outlet, and it did not contribute in making our experience enjoyable and we wondered about the professionalism of the service crew. As the Gluttons eyed the contents of each colored plate, and devoured almost all of the usual and specialized concoctions, only two dishes proved to be victorious; soft shell crab sushi and peas.
The soft shell crab sushi is fresh, soft and juicy from the tangy flesh of the crab, and it leaves us returning more than once. The plate of green peas is not a favorite item for many with its hairy appearances on the outside but the warmth and flavor gave the peas a distinctive taste and is certainly recommended.
There was a variety of sushi – including wasabi ebiko and octopus as their main ingredients, which was good as diners were not restricted to the common sushi. As for the ramen, besides the generous portions, not much can be said about the tastes. It was not the best ramen any of the Gluttons had tried before, but we have to give credit for their large proportions.

Verdict: 2 out of 5
Overall, we have to admit we were disappointed by the experience. Food is what draws the crowd in and is also the main reason in keeping them out. The ingredients were not of quality standards, neither were their services. However, the Clementi outlet has the basics of tastes, variety and ambience. It is the place to go if you want to experience Japanese cuisine at an affordable price and its environment allows you to relax with your pals and families.
